My name is Russell Huebner and I am a candidate for the District 6 seat on the Kyle City Council. I am running for Kyle City Council because I believe in this great city and it’s potential. I moved my family here four and a half years ago because Kyle offered great schools, peace of mind for my family’s security, and an affordable cost of living. In recent years excesses in borrowing and spending have resulted in tax hikes. I am forced to consider either selling my house and moving to a nearby city with lower taxes, such as Buda or Mountain City, or take matters into my own hands and run for City Council. I have chosen the latter.

My friends, our city is already more than $73 million in debt. Our tax rate will continue to go up once all current loan obligations begin to come due for payment. At a recent workshop held by the City Council I learned that our city has proposed an additional $70 million dollars in new projects which can only be paid for by additional borrowing and tax hikes. More borrowing and spending will only cause greater financial strain on our low and fixed income neighbors. This vicious cycle must end now. If the voters of district six choose me as their representative, I will push for a five year moratorium on new debt creation and freeze the tax rate over the same period in order to pay down our debt and put our city’s finances back on a fiscally responsible track.

If I am elected I will also work to create a comprehensive strategic plan, which our city currently lacks, that has at least a 15-year outlook. I will also work to put a plan in place to fund the construction of the new library without using bonds or tax hikes. My next priority will be to focus on infrastructure projects such as roads, water, wastewater, and parks. Without your support I cannot accomplish these goals. Please mark your calendar for February 13th and vote for Russ!
